MASAI MARA-NABOISHO CONSERVANCY.

Located in Kenya adjacent to the Masai Mara National Reserve, this private conservancy is a groundbreaking project of tourism benefiting conservation and community. With its high concentration of wildlife and generous personal space and freedom on offer, visitors enjoy exceptional wildlife encounters. Imagine setting up camp on the plains of the African savannah and waking up to the sounds of a herd of zebra right outside your tent. Or tracking a pride of 20 lions without catching sight of another group of camera-toting predators. Imagine venturing out into the unknown at night. At the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, this is possible. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya is home to the big cats – in impressive numbers – and herds of elephant, giraffe, and wildebeest. Unlike its neighbor, the Masai Mara National Reserve, this private conservancy strictly monitors the number of tourists who enter the area, reducing the number of vehicles and the human impact on the environment and wildlife. While the charm of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy is its exclusivity, the philosophy of the conservancy is refreshingly inclusive. The 50,000-acre conservancy is made up of land contributions from 500 Maasai landowners. The conservancy fees provide the Maasai community with a sustainable livelihood and ensure the conservation of the wildlife in this vital corridor of the Masai Mara eco-system.

DAY 4-5: MASAI MARA-NABOISHO CONSERVANCY: B, L, D.

Two Full days spent with day game viewing in the Mara. Elephant and Buffalo abound in the riverine forests, while out on the grasslands Impala and Thompson’s gazelle can be seen together with their attendant predators such as lion, Cheetah, Hyena, and Jackal. The Mara is, in fact, the northern part of the Serengeti ecosystem and plays host to the vast herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra from July to October. Lesser-known species such as topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, eland and many small mammals create a kaleidoscopic picture of wildlife.

HEMINGWAYS OL SEKI MARA

A private tented camp in a stunning location, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara perches on top of a ridge in the Naboisho Conservancy, northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. On an arrow-shaped bluff pointing south, with a 270-degree panorama, Ol Seki, named after the sandpaper tree – symbolizing peace and harmony in Maasai culture – offers mind-cleansing views and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Small and intimate, the camp offers 10 luxury en-suite tents each enjoying a private deck and a panoramic view of the savannah below. The size of the tents is remarkable and their design gives an exotic and graceful appearance, accentuated by their spaciousness and attractive furnishings.
