END OF SERVICE

1

Day 1: NAIROBI – MASAI MARA L,D

Morning drive across the great Rift valley to Masai Mara. Afternoon game viewing. Spend the next 2 nights at Mara Sopa lodge or similar.

2

Day 2: MASAI MARA B,L,D

A full day game viewing in the Mara. Elephant and Buffalo abound in the riverine forests, while out on the grasslands Impala and Thompson’s gazelle can be seen together with their attendant predators such as lion, Cheetah, Hyena and Jackal. The Mara is, in fact, the northern part of the Serengeti ecosystem and plays host to the vast herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra during the months of July to October. Lesser known species such as topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, eland and many small mammals create a kaleidoscopic picture of wildlife.

3

Day 3:  LAKE NAIVASHA B,L,D

Return to the Rift valley and on to Lake Naivasha. Afternoon boat trip on the lake, one of the prime bird watching areas in East Africa. Overnight at Naivasha Sopa lodge with splendid views over the lake.

4

Day 4:  AMBOSELI B,L,D

Drive via Nairobi to Amboseli, crossing the Athi plains, home of the colourful Masai tribes. Spend the next 2 nights at Amboseli Sopa lodge or similar.

5

Day 5:  AMBOSELI B,L,D

Morning and afternoon game viewing in Amboseli, a relatively small yet fascinating park of lush water holes and swamps contrasting against flat open plains and acacia woodlands. Elephant and plains game abound as well as the big cats such as Lion, Leopard and Cheetah. With luck, the snow-capped peak of Mt Kilimanjaro will be visible, creating a spectacular backdrop to the peacefully grazing animals.

6

Day 6:  TSAVO B,L,D

Morning drive to Tsavo West park, stopping to see the Shaitani lava flow. Afternoon game drive in the park. From Kilaguni, great expanses of open plains stretch in all directions with Mount Kilimanjaro, the Chyulu hills, the Taita hills and Ngulia mountains on different horizons. The views from Roaring rocks and Poacher’s lookout are truly spectacular. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino and most common species of plains game and smaller mammals are present so wildlife viewing is varied but requires some patience. A visit to Mzima Springs where crystal clear water bubbles up from underground may reveal hippo and crocodile, seen from an underwater viewing hide. Bird life is extraordinarily colourful and diverse with the Ngulia mountains hosting many migratory species at certain times of the year. Overnight at Kilaguni lodge.

7

Day 7:  TSAVO-MOMBASA B

Morning drive to Mombasa where the tour ends before lunch (cost of transfer to hotel must be added).
