MASAI MARA-NABOISHO CONSERVANCY.

Located in Kenya adjacent to the Masai Mara National Reserve, this private conservancy is a ground breaking project of tourism benefiting conservation and community. With its high concentration of wildlife, and generous personal space and freedom on offer, visitors enjoy exceptional wildlife encounters. Imagine setting up camp on the plains of the African savannah and waking up to the sounds of a herd of zebra right outside your tent. Or tracking a pride of 20 lions without catching sight of another group of camera-toting predators. Imagine venturing out into the unknown at night. At the Mara Naboisho Conservancy this is possible. The Mara Naboisho Conservancy in Kenya is home to the big cats – in impressive numbers – and herds of elephant, giraffe, and wildebeest. Unlike its neighbor, the Masai Mara National Reserve, this private conservancy strictly monitors the number of tourists who enter the area, reducing the number of vehicles and the human impact on the environment and wildlife. While the charm of the Mara Naboisho Conservancy is its exclusivity, the philosophy of the conservancy is refreshingly inclusive. The 50,000 acre conservancy is made up of land contributions from 500 Maasai landowners. The conservancy fees provide the Maasai community with a sustainable livelihood and ensure the conservation of the wildlife in this vital corridor of the Masai Mara eco-system.

Lesser known species such as topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, eland and many small mammals create a kaleidoscopic picture of wildlife.

Ol Seki Hemingways Mara

A private tented camp in a stunning location, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara perches on top of a ridge in the Naboisho Conservancy, northeast of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Day 8-9: SERENGETI: B, L, D.

Two full days spent in the park with scheduled safari activities. The Serengeti eco-system contains the greatest concentration of wildlife in Africa. The varied topography and seasons creates a hugely diverse range of landscapes and changing wildlife habitats. The wet season starts with the short rains in November and ends with the long rains in April/May. The dry season runs from June to October although this is more extreme in the south than in the north. Great herds of migratory wildebeest, zebra and antelope roam the plains together with their attendant predators such as lion, cheetah, hyena and jackal. The open short grass plains dotted with rock outcrops “kopjes” dominate the south and provide nutritious food for the Wildebeest and their new born calves during Dec to April. Look out for hippo and crocodile along the river banks and leopard in the forest. Heading North to Lobo, the plains give way to wooded hills with rocky outcrops and a favorite area for elephants. Here in the north, there is enough rain throughout the year to keep the grasslands nutritious and there are plenty of resident plains game and big cats. All meals and overnight stay will be at Serengeti Under Canvas.

&Beyond Serengeti under Canvas is a luxurious semi-permanent tented camp that moves around the Serengeti bringing guests within range of the massive herds of the Great Migration. This is the ultimate in luxury camping, complete with a private butler service, chandeliers, silverware, crystal, ensuite flush w.c. and comfortable beds with fluffy duvets. Experience a classic Tanzanian safari in spectacular solitude and soothing comfort – with only the canvas walls of your tent separating you from the wonder of the Serengeti. Carefully positioned for close proximity to the wildlife herds of the Great Migration, our two &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps provide the ultimate viewpoint for this amazing animal spectacle.
