Set between Nairobi National Park and the foot of the Ngong Hills, Hemingways Nairobi is an exclusive luxury boutique hotel located in the peaceful suburb of Karen far from the bustle of central Nairobi. An all-suite property providing full butler service, a brasserie, a sunset bar and lounge and a spa, this plantation style property is perfectly placed for trips to Nairobi National Park, the David Sheldrick Wildlife trust and the capital.

A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Hemingways Nairobi has a sophisticated and tranquil ambiance. Each of the 45 suites is a generous size, all with walk-in dressing rooms and a private terrace with magnificent views of the iconic Ngong Hills. Enjoy a light lunch in the brasserie overlooking the well-tended gardens and the heated swimming pool.
Karen is the site of Karen Blixen’s farm, as highlighted in the film Out of Africa. Her house is now a museum and worth a visit. Take an exhilarating trip to Nairobi National Park to see buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, baboon, zebra, wildebeest, rhino and cheetah. Return to Hemingways Nairobi for a sunset cocktail on the terrace.

Lofty, expansive rooms with vast, bright en-suite bathrooms and large private terraces are characteristic of the hotel’s wonderful sense of space and use of natural light. There are 45 high-ceilinged rooms, two of which are penthouse style Presidential Suites and 43 Junior Suites culminating in vaulted beams. Muted colours and textured fabrics in ecru and taupe create an ambience of contemporary chic while subtle touches of brass, mahogany and leather bear reference to the classic elegance of vintage East African safaris. With pop up LED televisions, personalised private bars and reliable Wi-Fi the suites are fitted to the highest standard of technology and comfort. The view of the rolling lawns and Ngong Hills from the private terraces takes in The Green Hills of Africa, as described in Hemingway’s novel.

It’s unique and compelling features are the stunning landscapes and unusual species of animal such as the handsome Oryx, long-necked Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra and Kudu. On the rim of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, overlooking the Mara Triangle, with vast amounts of animals, and most spectacularly the iconic wildebeest migration, lies Angama Mara. A place where the light never sits still. The sun shining through the clouds creates chaotic shadows, ever on the move across the Mara plains. The sky – ‘anga’ in Swahili – melts into the horizon, and it is hard to define where it ends and the earth begins. The lovely Swahili word ‘angama’, meaning ‘hanging or suspended in midair’, inspired the name Angama Mara. The site completely speaks to this, as each tented suite and guest area hangs on the edge of the Rift Valley, with views that quite simply take your breath away.

The Mara is, in fact, the northern part of the Serengeti ecosystem and plays host to the vast herds of migratory wildebeest and zebra during the months of July to October. Lesser known species such as topi, hartebeest, waterbuck Eland and many small mammals create a kaleidoscopic picture of wildlife. All meals and overnight stay will be at Angama Mara Camp.
