Day 1: Departure Nairobi

Arrival of your international flight into Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha. Met by our representatives outside customs and immigration halls. Safari briefing and transferred to Arusha Coffee Lodge. Check-in to Plantation rooms on bed and breakfast. Overnight stay.

Lying on the gentling rolling foothills that cascade down from the ever-present Mount Meru is the bustling and vibrant town of Arusha. It is here on the outskirts of this town, hidden amongst one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations, that you will find Arusha Coffee Lodge, a perfect haven for relaxation either before or after any African safari. Comprising of 30 Plantation Houses – inclusive of 12 Plantation Suites – that radiate out into the evergreen coffee fields, Arusha Coffee Lodge has been designed around the original landowner’s home that dates back to the early 1900’s. The theme of coffee is never far away at Arusha Coffee Lodge, and this is never more evident than in the Plantation Suites where the theme coffee bean permeates even the interior designs of both the main bedroom as well as the beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom. The homely feel of the Lodge is by no means accidental as the origins of the homestead continue to emit glimpses of times-gone-by. The friendly and personable staff help create an ambiance that continues to draw appreciation from all those who visit and stay. Within the main Plantation House reside an ‘a la carte’ restaurant, an intimate bar and a cozy lounge, all of which possess inviting open log fires that will fill the cool night air with comforting warmth and a welcoming glow. With two boutiques, an enclosed and intimate swimming pool and a popular garden terrace, Arusha Coffee Lodge encourages exploration and discovery at every turn. From the industrious coffee pickers gathering in the harvest to the aromas of the morning brew emanating from the main Plantation House as breakfast is being prepared, Arusha Coffee Lodge is full of sensory experiences that revitalizes the body and soul for the adventures and excitement that lie ahead.

Day 2: Arusha/Ngorongoro :B,L,D

Breakfast at the hotel. Met by our driver guide. Depart for Ngorongoro Conservation area. Arrive, check-in and lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Spend 2 nights at the Manor Ngorongoro inclusive of full board, drinks (except Champagne, Cognacs and single malt Whiskeys), and laundry, game drives in Ngorongoro crater, airstrip transfers.

Day 3: Ngorongoro :B,L,D

Breakfast at the lodge. Picnic lunch boxes will be provided. Descend into the crater for game drives. A first glimpse of Ngorongoro leaves one literally breathless. Once a huge volcano, probably larger than Kilimanjaro, it is now a vast circular amphitheater, spectacularly beautiful and a garden of Eden for huge numbers of wildlife. The animals are resident throughout the year and it is not difficult to find four of the “Big Five” elephant, lion, buffalo and rhino. Spotting leopard requires sharp eyes and a bit of luck! Centre piece of the extensive floor is Crater lake with its pink mantle of Flamingo and other birdlife. Later drive back to the lodge. Rest of the day at leisure. All meals and overnight stay will be at The Manor.

Crossing the Rift Valley and climbing the steppe onto the green and rolling hills south of the Ngorongoro Crater, there lies a truly undeniable surprise and one that will be a home-away-from-home. The Manor at Ngorongoro, located in the north west Tanzania and with its 10 luxurious cottages (20 Suites) and magnificent main Manor House, is one of the first safari lodges of its kind to blend East African hospitality with old-world Afro-European architecture and decor. Located adjacent to the famous Ngorongoro conservation area and within a 1500-acre Arabica coffee estate, The Manor is reminiscent of an elegant up-country farm home in the Cape Dutch-style of architecture. Every detail of The Manor has been designed with its guests’ comfort in mind. Each of the cottages has been carefully positioned to maximise the views of the adjacent verdant hills but at the same time to maintain the intimacy and privacy of this old-world Manor home. The Manor at Ngorongoro provides the perfect environment to relax and take in the outstanding natural beauty of its gardens and the coffee-bush laden hills. However the drama that is Africa is but a short distance away. Ngorongoro Crater is famed as being the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’, and is a ‘must see’ on anyone’s itinerary. This extinct volcano – with its 18-kilometre wide crater floor – is home to an abundant and unique ecosystem that encompasses almost all of the wildlife that you would wish to see in Africa. This spectacular setting is a ‘once-in-a- lifetime’ opportunity to experience the rawness and beauty of Africa’s natural flora and fauna. And what better way to enjoy the Crater than in the knowledge that at the end of the day you will return to enjoy an incomparable dinner in The Manor’s restaurant followed by a deeply restful night in a cottage that has been designed both with your comfort solely in mind.

The varied topography and seasons creates a hugely diverse range of landscapes and changing wildlife habitats. The wet season starts with the short rains in November and ends with the long rains in April/May. The dry season runs from June to October although this is more extreme in the south than in the north. Great herds of migratory wildebeest, zebra and antelope roam the plains together with their attendant predators such as lion, cheetah, hyena and jackal. The open short grass plains dotted with rock outcrops “kopjes” dominate the south and provide nutritious food for the Wildebeest and their new born calves during Dec to April. look out for hippo and crocodile along the river banks and leopard in the forest. Heading North to Lobo, the plains give way to wooded hills with rocky outcrops and a favourite area for elephants. Here in the north, there is enough rain throughout the year to keep the grasslands nutritious and there are plenty of resident plains game and big cats. All meals and overnight stay will be at Serengeti Under Canvas.

&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas is a luxurious semi-permanent tented camp that moves around the Serengeti bringing guests within range of the massive herds of the Great Migration.
